The much-anticipated upgrade of the William and Mary Street intersection in Blackstone is nearing completion, with traffic flow expected to return to normal soon. Ipswich City Council has been working diligently on this critical project, which serves as a major thoroughfare from Redbank Plains to Ipswich.

Crews have been working day and night to install traffic lights at the intersection, a key milestone in the project. According to Division 1 Councillor Pye Augustine, the final stages of the upgrade include landscaping, line marking, and a few remaining night works. “We’re grateful for the community’s patience as we complete this crucial work. Once finished, the area will be fully open, allowing traffic to flow smoothly,” she said.

This infrastructure upgrade is part of a broader effort by the Ipswich City Council to enhance the city’s amenities. Another significant development is the recent transformation of Fire Station 101 into a vibrant creative hub. Following advice from the Ipswich Arts Advisory Group and feedback from the Creators of Ipswich Summit, the revamped Fire Station 101 now offers a variety of spaces for artists and content creators. “It’s a fantastic facility that provides opportunities for our local arts community to thrive,” Councillor Augustine noted.

In addition to these infrastructure projects, the Council is also encouraging residents to nominate outstanding locals for the upcoming Ipswich Australia Day Awards. Categories include Citizen of the Year, Senior Citizen of the Year, and Cultural and Sports Awards. “These awards recognize the unsung heroes in our community who contribute positively and selflessly,” Councillor Augustine said.

As Ipswich continues to grow and develop, these projects and initiatives demonstrate the Council’s commitment to improving the city’s infrastructure and celebrating its community members. The completion of the William and Mary Street Blackstone upgrade will mark another step forward in this ongoing effort.
