In this weeks state of play we speak to State member for Ipswich – Jennifer Howard.
Ipswich City Council receiving $240,00 for Skilling Queenslanders for Work
The Ipswich City Council just received $240,000 from the Palaszczuk Government’s Skilling Queenslanders for Work Program.
This generous funding will support the training of 16 trainees and apprentices, paving the way for brighter futures and valuable opportunities in our community.
Ipswich Zonta’s annual 16 Days of Activism
Ipswich Zonta’s annual 16 Days of Activism to end gender based violence is officially launched last week.
Thanks to President, Pam Vanderhof, Mayor Teresa Harding and Barrister at Law, Laura Reece for great speeches, highlighting what’s been done and what still needs to be done to end this scourge on society. And a huge thanks to Domestic Violence Action Centre for holding a stall and for the life saving work you do each and every day. Please like and share social media posts by Zonta Ipswich Inc over this period of activism to help spread the word as we work towards eliminating gender based violence.
PCYC Ipswich Check In
The Ipswich PCYC is looking in tip top shape after its recent upgrade, thanks to this Government’s investment. It’s part of a total of $56m statewide to expand PCYC programs and to support the construction of new PCYC facilities as well as significant upgrades to existing centres.
Part of the investment is aimed at delivering programs that have been proven to work in helping at-risk young people turn away from involvement in the criminal justice system.
Among the many upgrades, I was particularly pleased to see the boxing area where kids who come through our successful Youth Co-responder program get mentored and trained by Police Officer TJ and his team. I couldn’t resist having a go while I was there.
PCYC Queensland delivers hundreds of intervention, prevention and diversion programs and activities across Queensland aimed at keeping young people engaged and on the right track.
Premier’s Reading Awards – Goodstart Early Learning Raceview
Well done to Goodstart Early Learning Raceview for joining the Premier’s reading challenge. Whether at early childhood centres or at home, this reading challenge celebrates and encourages a love for life long learning through reading. Congratulations to these young Ipswich readers – you’re off to a Good Start.
Home Owners Grants doubled to $30,000
This doubled First Home Owner Grant will come into effect from Monday, 20 November until 30 June 2025. You must be buying or building a new (not previously lived in) home valued at less than $750,000. It could be a new home, unit, townhouse or granny flat, or a home in a manufactured home park.
You must be 18 years or older and it must be your first residential property owned in Australia.
It’s only possible because of our new, fairer royalties on big coal companies. We want to keep increasing the supply of housing, so to be eligible you must be buying or building a new home. This is about putting the dream of home ownership within reach of more Queenslanders.
Fee Free TAFE
540 Ipswich students are benefiting from Fee-Free TAFE programs, courtesy of a joint initiative delivered by the Palaszczuk Government and the Albanese Government. To date over 3,000 TAFE Queensland students from Ipswich have commenced fee-free training, emphasising the growing demand for specialised education. As a proud former TAFE student, I’m delighted to see this continued investment in TAFE. It’s good for our local kids, as well as for our economy.
Gala Presentation Community Awards Dinner.
A wonderful, warm and worthy celebration at the Gala Presentation Community Awards Dinner. Two Ipswich groups were represented at these awards, with our very own awesome team from Domestic Violence Action Center being finalists. I was proud to attend and support these hardworking humans who do so much, often under difficult circumstances, to end domestic violence. A big congratulations to every community group from right across Queensland who were nominated. I loved learning about the work they’re all doing and the difference they’re making.
