In a lively Saturday afternoon broadcast, the “All Ability Hour” powered by Focal Community Service captivated listeners on West Bremer Radio and the free West Bremer Radio app. Hosted by Sparky and Patty, the show featured engaging conversations, essential updates on the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), and heartfelt community stories.
The episode kicked off with Sparky and Patty exchanging cheerful banter before diving into crucial NDIS updates effective from July 1st. Paddy emphasised the importance of staying informed about the new price guides and their implications, noting significant changes such as the restriction of high-intensity support for support workers to medical needs only, excluding behavioural support. To ensure accurate information, Paddy encouraged listeners to attend NDIS seminars and reach out directly to the NDIS.
“Knowing these changes is vital for both organisations and clients,” Paddy stressed. “Don’t assume everything remains the same; always verify the latest guidelines.”
The show transitioned seamlessly to a special guest segment featuring Amy, a long-time member of Focal and a vibrant participant in community activities. Amy, who has Down syndrome, shared her passions for cooking, reading, and spending time with her family. Her enthusiasm for baking, particularly chocolate cupcakes, brought a sweet note to the conversation, with Sparky humorously requesting a sample.
Amy’s involvement in Focal’s programs, including a recent talent show where she performed Queen’s “We Will Rock You,” highlighted the inclusive and empowering environment fostered by the organization. Paddy praised Amy’s performance, noting how she energized the audience and almost “brought the house down.”
As the show wrapped up, Amy expressed her love for the activities at Focal, from making coffee to playing games and going on outings with friends. She gave a warm shoutout to her family and friends, adding a personal touch to the broadcast.
“All Ability Hour” continues to serve as a valuable platform for people with disabilities, service providers, and family members to share their experiences and stay informed. Tune in next week for more community stories and essential updates, same time, same place, on West Bremer Radio.
