Ipswich Cricket is back on the pitch this weekend as teams look to reignite their seasons after the Christmas and New Year break. With first and second-grade men’s teams and the women’s seconds returning to action, excitement is building for a crucial round of matches.

Speaking on West Bremer Radio, Ipswich Cricket’s Simon Emmerson previewed the upcoming games. “We’re playing Sunny Coast this weekend, with first grade heading up the coast and second grade hosting here at Baxter Oval,” Emerson said.

The first-grade team faces a tough challenge against Sunny Coast, who currently top the ladder. “They’ve been the standout side this season, but we’re sitting fifth and ready to chase hard,” Emmerson explained, though he admitted the weather could play a deciding factor.

Second grade is also set for a pivotal match. “They’re one win outside the top four,” said Emerson. “A win or draw keeps them in finals contention, but a loss would make things tricky with all the mathematical equations we’d need to make finals.”

The women’s second-grade team resumes their season on Sunday against Wynnum. Emerson hopes the holiday break serves as a reset for the team after a string of close losses in the first half of the season. “A bit of luck and momentum post-Christmas could change everything,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ipswich cricket star Jack Wood continues to shine with the Brisbane Heat, playing two games over the holiday period. “It’s fantastic for our cricket community,” Emerson said. “He’s an inspiration for young players, showing them the dream can become a reality.”

Fans are encouraged to support the teams this weekend despite potential rain.
