Ipswich’s creative community is gearing up for the next round of Art Fight, a live painting competition that blends performance, audience participation and a strong message in support of human-made art.

Hosted by Art Time Supplies, the event has quickly built momentum after a successful opening round, with artists and audiences embracing its fast-paced, interactive format. Organisers say the competition was partly inspired by growing concerns about AI-generated artwork and a desire to celebrate creativity made in real time, by real artists.

The concept is simple but high-energy: artists go head-to-head in live challenges, with the audience also taking part in activities that can influence the night’s result. Organiser Cassie said the event is designed to feel part game show, part art battle, with a chaotic and competitive atmosphere that pushes artists out of their comfort zones.

Each participant receives a $50 voucher from Art Time Supplies, while the winner takes home a $100 prize. Works created on the night can also be sold, with some paintings from the first round snapped up straight off the easel.

The next round of Art Fight will be held at Stony Creek Brewery on April 19 from 3pm to 5pm, featuring artists 4 local artists. Organisers are encouraging people to book tables early, with audience involvement playing a key role in the experience.

Art Time is also in the middle of its annual colour competition, which this year features cobalt turquoise as the theme and includes both adult and junior categories. The competition has expanded to include trophies, ribbons and public voting, with organisers saying community interest has been especially strong this year.

The event calendar is also continuing to grow, with a separate skate deck art project, Decked Out, in the works, alongside calls for public nominations in the Prism Awards, which recognise local creative achievements across multiple categories.

For Ipswich artists and art lovers alike, organisers say the message is clear: creativity is thriving, and there is strong support for events that celebrate original work, community connection and a little healthy competition.
