Bundamba MP Lance McCallum says Anzac Day remains one of the most important dates on the local calendar, as he also ramps up advocacy for road upgrades, sporting infrastructure and cost-of-living relief in the lead-up to council budget decisions.

Mr McCallum said he would attend multiple commemorative services across the electorate this week, including the dawn service at Goodna and the mid-morning service at Bundamba, as well as school observances such as one at Fernbrooke State School. He said the growing attendance at local Anzac Day events reflects the community’s strong respect for veterans, current serving personnel and their families.

He is also backing calls from residents for urgent planning work on an Eagle Street connection between Redbank Plains and Collingwood Park. The road currently stops short of crossing Goodna Creek, and Mr McCallum said traffic and parking pressures are already worsening due to rapid growth, a new high school and additional housing developments in the area. He said council’s current timeline for studies is too slow and the bridge proposal needs to become a priority now.

With the Ipswich City Council budget approaching, Mr McCallum said he hopes council will be mindful of the pressure households are already under from fuel prices and broader cost-of-living pressures. He said he is pushing for practical local projects including upgrades to School Road, the Eagle Street connection, Jones Road at Bellbird Park, Redbank Plains Road Stage 4 and improvements for sporting clubs such as Goodna Eagles.

Mr McCallum also renewed his call for a tartan athletics track in Ipswich, saying Ripley Valley State Secondary College would be an ideal location because of previous investment already made in athletics facilities there. He argued the city should not settle for one possible venue and said Ipswich needs at least one dedicated athletics track, if not more, given its size and growth.

Looking ahead, he also encouraged the community to join the annual Ipswich Labor Day march and family event on Saturday, May 2 at Timothy Molony Park, where workers and families will gather to celebrate the city’s strong labour tradition.
