Ipswich West MP Wendy Bourne has delivered a flurry of community updates, spotlighting funding wins, health initiatives, and future plans across the region during her State of Play chat on West Bremer Radio.
Bourne confirmed she’s advocating to bring an elder abuse inquiry and a volunteering inquiry to Ipswich. “These are critical topics that deserve a local spotlight,” she said.
Local sport also made headlines, with a big shoutout to young hockey star Sarah Savage, who recently represented Queensland at the 2025 U16 National Hockey Championships in Adelaide.
In infrastructure, the Rosewood Rail Museum is gaining momentum with hopes of restoring the iconic steam train as a tourist attraction. “The museum is amazing,” Bourne said, urging locals to follow her Facebook page for a full update.
Meanwhile, the Rosewood community is rallying to keep its public pool open year-round, with calls for an extra gas heater to warm the water through winter. Bourne has raised the issue with Mayor Teresa Harding.
Bourne’s commitment to accessibility continues with a mobile office session this Friday at Barista Sisters, Brassall, from 2–4pm. She’s even been spotted behind the counter at Baskin Robbins, supporting local small business owner Israel, known for his generosity to community sports clubs.
In a major funding boost, the Norths Tigers Rugby League Club and Ipswich Musketeers Baseball Club will each receive $150,000 for new amenities. The Rosewood Showgrounds scored $800,000 for upgraded floodlighting—great news for the local pony club.
With flu season approaching, Bourne encouraged all residents to get their free flu vaccine, available until 30 September. “There’s nothing worse than a winter cold—especially for our older residents,” she said.
Wendy Bourne wrapped up the segment by wishing the community a safe and happy Easter.
