Ipswich is gearing up for Get Online Week, an initiative aimed at promoting digital inclusion, especially among seniors. The campaign, which runs from October 14 to 20, is organised by the Good Things Foundation and the Be Connected network. It encourages individuals to improve their digital skills through local events and fun activities.
One of the key events taking place is the Tech-Smart Seniors Info Day and Expo, happening tomorrow at Brothers Leagues Club. Senior Constable Kerrin Sheedy emphasised the importance of digital education for seniors, stating, “We have to get them to be savvy and tech smart.” She also noted that even adults outside the senior community often find themselves baffled by modern technology.
The expo, held on October 15 from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., is hosted by Ipswich District Crime Prevention Unit, Ipswich District Neighbourhood Watch Committee, and Star Community Services. The free event will feature a range of guest speakers, workshops, and information on tech safety for seniors.
With technology playing an ever-increasing role in everyday life, learning how to navigate it safely and efficiently is crucial. The workshops will cover topics like staying safe online, managing personal information, and understanding technology that’s relevant to seniors.
Event organizers urge those interested to register by calling 3821 6699 or emailing marketing@starct.org.au. Special attention will also be given to any dietary requirements for attendees.
For further details, Ipswich residents can reach out to Sergeant Nadine Webster, Ipswich District Crime Prevention Coordinator, at 3817 1351.
As part of Get Online Week, the Tech-Smart Seniors Expo promises to be a valuable resource for those looking to enhance their digital knowledge and stay connected in an increasingly digital world.
