Community Gallery Becomes New Hub for ‘Get Your Arts Into Gear’ Podcast
The popular Get Your Arts Into Gear podcast has a brand-new home — the Ipswich Community Gallery at Booval Fair. Hosted by local arts identity Glenn Smith and broadcast through West Bremer Radio, the program is now recorded weekly from the vibrant new gallery space, surrounded by visual works from artists across the region.
“It’s an incredible location,” said Smith. “The talent in this one place is just amazing, and the space gives us the opportunity to bring the arts even closer to the community.”
Arts Connect and Community Groups Flock to Booval Fair
Thanks to support from Booval Fair Shopping Centre, the Community Gallery has quickly become a hub for creatives. Arts Connect is leading the charge, with a rotating calendar of community groups using the space — including Ipswich Photography Club, Tuesday Tarts, Ipswich Girls Grammar, and the Bremer Catchment Group.
Operating Monday to Saturday from 9:30am to 2:00pm, the gallery invites the public to visit, view local artworks, and engage with the creative process.
Local Artists Shine in Regional Shows
The podcast’s latest episode celebrated a string of wins for Ipswich artists at regional art competitions. Arts Connect members collected numerous accolades at the Brookfield and Lockyer Valley shows.
Marie Hannah of Imbibis Distillery won the watercolour prize at Brookfield, while Glenn Smith himself earned two highly commended awards. At the Foothills Art Show, Grant Quinn (photography), Tony McKayzie (sculpture), and Debbie Chilton (printmaking) all took top honours.
“Artists from our region are absolutely blitzing it,” Smith said. “It’s great to see Ipswich talent getting the recognition it deserves.”
More to Come
With the new venue already proving popular, Smith teased that more guest interviews and community involvement are on the way. “We’re excited — this is just the beginning,” he said.
