In a recent segment on West Bremer Radio’s “Brekkie Club,” Andrew Catton provided a detailed update on Ipswich’s first-grade cricket teams and their performances over the weekend. The men’s team experienced a rollercoaster of results in the T20 Max competition, starting with a tough loss but finishing strong.
The weekend began on a disappointing note for the men’s team as they faced the Sunshine Coast. Despite restricting their opponents to a manageable 168, Ipswich was bowled out for just 62 runs, resulting in a heavy defeat. However, the team quickly regrouped and delivered an impressive performance against the star-studded Gold Coast team the following day. Chasing 131, Ipswich secured a victory by 7 runs, bouncing back in style. On Monday night, the team continued their winning streak by successfully chasing down a challenging target of 192 against Turnbull, capping off a strong finish to their T20 Max campaign. Unfortunately, the initial loss to the Sunshine Coast proved costly, preventing them from advancing to the finals.
The first-grade women’s team also faced challenges over the weekend. Playing at home in Ipswich against Valleys, the women fought hard but ultimately fell short. Valleys posted a formidable 210, and while the Ipswich women put up a commendable fight, they were unable to chase the target, finishing at 166, 44 runs shy of victory.
With the T20 Max competition now behind them, Ipswich’s teams are shifting their focus to the upcoming one-day competitions. The men’s one-day fixtures are set to begin next weekend, while the women will also commence their season soon. Both teams are eager to build on their experiences and perform well in the matches ahead.
