Ipswich cricket teams had a mixed yet promising weekend, with strong performances keeping hopes alive across divisions. Ipswich Cricket President Simon Emerson shared highlights, beginning with an impressive showing from the men’s first grade against Sandgate. Bowling led by Brayden McDougall (4/20) and Sean Luter (3/20) left Sandgate all out for 224 after a late collapse. Ipswich now sits at 2/93 chasing, positioned for a potential victory in next week’s game.

The second-grade men also took on Sandgate, but after a solid start, they fell short at 185 all out, leaving Sandgate at 2/76 by close. Despite this, standout player Tommy Sippel created pressure with figures of 2/5 off seven overs, giving Ipswich a fighting chance to reclaim momentum in the second innings.

In the Taverners division, young Reese Johnson was a highlight, scoring a remarkable 137 runs. Yet, despite the spirited effort, the team narrowly missed victory in the final overs against Sandgate. Next weekend, they’ll face a tough game against the Gold Coast at Coogee, aiming to turn their season around.

The Ipswich women’s second-grade team similarly fought hard, coming up just short in their final ball against the Gold Coast. The loss complicates their path to the semi-finals, leaving them in a must-win situation for their remaining T20s. The young Rebecca McComb Cup girls, while facing losses, continue to develop and grow as a team.

Looking ahead, first and second-grade men’s teams will complete their games against Sandgate in a pivotal week, while the Tabs prepare for a big matchup against the Gold Coast. The under-16s will face Logan in a crucial match with semi-final stakes in the Brisbane Metro Cup. The second-grade women’s team will face off against South and West in challenging matches that could define their season.

Emerson is optimistic: “Our teams are playing great cricket. We’re hopeful that the tide will turn this weekend.”
