Ipswich Cricket had an impressive week with wins across multiple divisions, signalling strong talent across the club. President Simon Emerson shared highlights from last weekend’s matches, starting with a noteworthy performance by the men’s first grade team. Ipswich bowled out Toombul for 278, with Jem Ryan and Sean Luter each taking three wickets. Young bowler Charlie Latchman, just 17, made headlines by dismissing Queensland Bulls player Matt Renshaw, a prestigious achievement early in his career.
In second grade, Ipswich secured a first-innings victory over Toombul, marking their fifth win in six games. Tom Sippel led with five wickets for 43 runs, supported by captain Paul Nassar with four for 23. Despite a shaky start, the team reached 129 runs, surpassing Toombul’s 112 and positioning themselves strongly for an outright win this weekend.
The Lord Taverners squad also celebrated a victory, defeating Souths by eight wickets. Reece Johnson, who recently joined Ipswich from Atherton in North Queensland, scored his second century in the tournament, achieving 112 runs to help the team chase down Souths’ 177 in just 14 overs. Johnson’s performances have impressed, making him a contender for the Queensland U17s team.
Ipswich’s U16 Brisbane Metro side pulled off a major upset against undefeated Wynnum, bowling them out for 124 and securing a convincing win with 10 overs to spare. The young players’ next match is scheduled for early next year due to the busy youth cricket calendar.
On the women’s side, Ipswich’s second grade women’s team defeated Sunny Coast, chasing down their opponent’s 112 to break a challenging streak. Meanwhile, in the Rebecca McCombs Cup, Ipswich’s younger team struggled against Wynnum but saw a strong individual effort from Addison Ward, who carried her bat with an unbeaten 42.
With rising stars and solid performances across all divisions, Ipswich Cricket is gearing up for a promising season.
