The Ipswich Jets are set to kick off their 2025 Hostplus Cup season this weekend under the leadership of head coach Tye Ingebrigtsen, who is determined to build on the team’s late-season resurgence in 2024.
Ingebrigtsen, who took over midway through last season, guided the Jets from a struggling campaign to an impressive five wins in their last seven games. That turnaround was enough to earn him a contract extension, allowing him to shape the squad for the new season.
Speaking on Sundown Rundown with Zak Caban, Ingebrigtsen said his goal is clear: finals football. “I don’t want to be like every other coach and say we just want to do our best,” he said. “My expectation is to play top-eight footy. It’s been a while since Ipswich has been there, and I’d be disappointed if we don’t make it this year.”
The Jets have undergone a near-total squad overhaul, with 19 key signings bringing fresh energy and experience to the club. Among them are former NRL player Dion Teapu, returning Jets players Julian Christian and Blake Lenahan, and hard-hitting hooker Ollie Pascoe, whom Ingebrigtsen believes can become a key leader for the team.
Ipswich will finally get their season underway after a weather-impacted delay, with their first official match taking place this Sunday evening against Easts Tigers. Despite the extended preseason, the coach insists there are “no excuses” for not being ready to compete.
With a revitalized squad, a strong partnership with the Gold Coast Titans, and a determined coaching staff, the Ipswich Jets are aiming to make 2025 the year they return to Queensland Cup relevance.
