Local theatre lovers are in for a thrilling night out as Ipswich Little Theatre launches its latest production, The Perfect Murder—a gripping stage adaptation of crime author Peter James’ popular novella
Directed by long-time theatre veteran Ian Puller and co-directed by his wife Helen, the production has already seen strong ticket sales, prompting the addition of an extra matinee performance. Puller, who has been with the theatre for 58 years and involved in over 70 productions, said the play brings a perfect balance of mystery, suspense, and a touch of humour.
Based on the early career of detective Roy Grace—James’ beloved fictional sleuth—the story centres around a chilling murder plot with plenty of twists and turns. “It’s not a comedy, but it has its moments,” Puller explained. “It’s all about whether the killer gets away with it. Is it really the perfect murder?”
The show features a mix of seasoned performers and fresh talent, including newcomer Sean Gibson, a graduate of the theatre’s Young Theatricals program, making his mainstage debut as the young Roy Grace.
“It’s incredible to see the next generation coming through,” Puller said. “Places like Ipswich Little Theatre are where careers begin.”
Helen Puller, a key figure in the theatre’s operations and long-time secretary, has been instrumental in both the production and the ongoing upkeep of the iconic venue, which recently underwent a $400,000 roof upgrade.
The Perfect Murder is playing now at Ipswich Little Theatre, with tickets just $25—making it one of the most affordable nights out in town. Bookings can be made online by searching “Ipswich Little Theatre.”
With a gripping story, stellar cast, and strong community spirit, The Perfect Murder is not to be missed.
