Ipswich West MP Wendy Bourne has used State Parliament to press the government on critical road projects, while also renewing calls for a tartan athletics track in Ipswich.

Speaking on West Bremer Radio’s State of Play, Ms Bourne said she has asked the government to prioritise funding for the Warrego Highway projects, including the Bremer River Bridge and Mount Crosby Interchange, to ensure smooth transport between Brisbane and Toowoomba ahead of the 2032 Olympic Games.

“All those people travelling up to Toowoomba need roads that are appropriate,” she said.

Ms Bourne also expressed envy at Toowoomba’s announcement of a new tartan athletics track, noting that Ipswich athletes are forced to travel to Brisbane for training. “We’ve been calling for one for a very, very long time. It would be amazing if we could have one as well,” she said.

In Parliament this week, Ms Bourne welcomed students from West Moreton Anglican College, calling civic education “vital” at a time when it is declining in schools. “They got to sit in my chair, meet Deputy Premier Stephen Miles, and see how Parliament works. It was a highlight of my day,” she said.

Closer to home, Ms Bourne raised concerns about CitySwitch Stage Seven, where meat workers face long delays accessing the Warrego Highway. She has written to the Deputy Premier urging him to see the issue firsthand.

She also encouraged residents to attend Ipswich City Council’s public hearing on 8 September, which will review several major development applications in North Ipswich, including proposals at the railway workshops.

Ms Bourne will host a mobile office at the Rosewood Hotel this Saturday from 11am to 6pm, coinciding with the local Mardi Gras festival, giving residents a chance to raise issues directly with their MP.
