Ipswich’s creative community is buzzing with activity, from weekly life drawing sessions at Stoney Creek Brewery to a stunning glassblowing exhibition at the Community Art Gallery.
Life Drawing Takes Shape in Ipswich
Artist Kimberly has launched weekly life drawing classes, giving locals a chance to hone their artistic skills in a relaxed environment. Held every Wednesday from 6-8 PM at Stoney Creek Brewery (formerly the Pumpyard), the sessions offer a professional model, a welcoming atmosphere, and the bonus of craft beer and wine on hand.
“I wanted to start drawing again and realised there wasn’t a weekly life drawing class in Ipswich—so I created one!” Kimberly said.
The classes are open to all skill levels, with a focus on gesture, light, and movement, rather than creating a perfect masterpiece. Participants can book via Humanitix, with prices set at $25 per person or $20 concession, making it an affordable way to explore the art form.
Glassblowing Exhibit “Thank You Ipswich” Draws Crowds
Meanwhile, glass artist Mark George is showcasing his intricate works in “Thank You Ipswich,” a glassblowing exhibition at the Ipswich Community Gallery. Running until Sunday, 10 AM – 3 PM daily, the exhibit features stunning handcrafted pieces, with strong sales and significant interest from galleries across Queensland.
George credits the Ipswich Arts community for his success, which gave him the confidence to pursue masterclasses at the Canberra Glassworks and Adelaide’s JamFactory.
“This exhibition is a way to give back and say thank you to the Ipswich community for its support,” he said.
With so much happening, Ipswich continues to solidify its reputation as a growing hub for artists, creatives, and makers.
What’s Next?
With more exhibitions, performances, and artistic surprises on the way, the local art scene is set for an exciting few months. Stay tuned for major announcements next week!
