Ipswich’s very own powerlifting champion, Alison Andric, is proving that strength knows no limits. Recently crowned winner of the Master’s Division at the GPC World Powerlifting Championship in Slovakia, Alison’s journey in powerlifting is nothing short of inspiring.
A Commitment to Strength
Powerlifting for Alison is more than a sport—it’s a lifestyle. “It’s challenging, tough, and incredibly rewarding,” she shared. Her preparation for the world championships began 20 weeks prior, involving a rigorous training regime, disciplined nutrition, and a focus on rest and recovery.
“It’s not just about lifting weights,” Alison emphasized. “It’s a complete lifestyle where you live and breathe the sport.”
From Gym Rookie to Global Champion
With over 20 years of experience in strength training, Alison began her journey in fitness classes, later transitioning to bodybuilding before finding her true passion in powerlifting. Guided by expert coaches, she honed her technique and gradually progressed to heavier lifts and competitive levels.
Her hard work has paid off with multiple accolades, including victories at Pro Raw in Melbourne and the recent Night of the Deadlift in Brisbane, where she won the Overall Master’s Female category.
Powerlifting Coach and Advocate
Alison now shares her passion as a powerlifting coach at World Gym in Ipswich, mentoring aspiring lifters, some as young as 12 years old. “It’s amazing to see kids train hard, compete, and challenge themselves,” she said.
She also organizes novice competitions to encourage new lifters, fostering a thriving local powerlifting community.
Next Stop: Ireland
Alison’s journey continues in 2024 with plans to compete internationally in Ireland and potentially in Melbourne. “My dream is to combine my love for powerlifting with travel,” she said.
For those interested in exploring the world of powerlifting, Alison invites locals to visit her at World Gym Ipswich for a firsthand experience in strength and mental discipline.
“Powerlifting challenges not just your body, but your mind, showing you can achieve more than you ever imagined,” she concluded.
