A major intersection upgrade in has been officially completed, with Ipswich City Councillor Jim Madden announcing the finalisation of works at Keswick Road, Wulkuraka Connection Road, and Butterfield Road in Karrabin.

The $1 million upgrade, co-funded with $198,000 from the Queensland Government, was delayed slightly due to Energex prioritising cyclone repairs. The busy route is a key secondary freight corridor linking the Warrego Highway to Rosewood Road and Wulkuraka, servicing one of the fastest-growing regions in Ipswich.

“It’s fantastic to see this important freight and commuter route finally complete,” Cr Madden said. “This road is vital for locals and the transport sector alike.”

💰 Budget Delivers Big Wins for Division 4

The 2025–26 Ipswich City Council budget includes major investment in Division 4, with major infrastructure and community projects on the way:

  • $40 million redevelopment of North Ipswich Reserve (Stage 1 begins with $4.6 million for planning and survey work)
  • $2.5 million upgrade to Adelong Avenue in Thagoona
  • $2 million for Tivoli Sports Complex (part of an $8.5 million two-year revamp)
  • $1 million for new lighting at Ivor Marsden Field
  • Lighting upgrades at Blue Gum Reserve in Karalee, home to the Karalee Tornadoes
  • $1 million in rehabilitation works on Ironpot Creek at Blacksoil
  • $120,000 for a new footpath outside Haiglea State School, the first of three school footpath projects

“We’re proud to be working with the state government to improve infrastructure, especially around our local schools,” said Cr Madden.

🏘️ Community Shaping the Western Growth Corridor

Residents have until Sunday to provide feedback on the Western Growth Corridor Structure Plan, a key document guiding the long-term development of one of Ipswich’s most significant expansion areas—from Karrabin to Rosewood, including Walloon and Thagoona.

Currently home to 10,000 residents, the corridor is expected to swell to 70,000 people over the next two decades.

“We’ve already had over 200 contributions and 1,700 visitors to the consultation page,” Cr Madden noted. “We’re encouraging locals to have their say.”

The draft plan, based on this feedback, will be released later in 2025 for public review. More details can be found at shapeyouripswich.com.au.
