Ipswich is buzzing with excitement as the Galvanised Festival, a celebration of local heritage, kicks off this Thursday. Mayor Teresa Harding joined the Brekkie Club to share her enthusiasm for the festival and provide updates on several important community initiatives.

The Galvanised Festival will run for 11 days, offering more than 30 events dedicated to local history. This year, the festival features a new addition: the Indigenous Wild Food and Cultural Festival, set to take place at the turf club. “It’s a great way to honour our First Nations and make the festival more accessible,” said Mayor Harding.
The Baker’s Ball is another highlight, offering a nostalgic World War Two victory dinner dance experience in Marburg. “It’s a progressive dinner with a swing band and dancing lessons, promising a fun night for all,” the mayor added.
For those interested in attending, Mayor Harding encouraged early booking as some events are ticketed and filling up fast.
The Ipswich Council is continuing its extensive community consultation for the new Western Resource Recovery Centre. Mount Marrow was recently removed from the list of proposed sites due to community opposition and the discovery of a culturally significant area. The council is now considering expanding the Rosewood Recycling Refuge Centre or establishing a new facility in Jeebropilly.
Additionally, Mayor Harding announced that she will join the Ipswich RSL this weekend to commemorate the addition of new memorial walls and plaques for 117 soldiers at the Ipswich General Cemetery. This follows the dedication of 165 plaques in 2021 and is part of ongoing efforts to properly honour those who served and were not previously recognised.
Lastly, Mayor Harding reminded residents that it’s Queensland Road Safety Week and highlighted the importance of following road safety rules. She also commended the Ipswich SES for their exceptional service to the community, as they recently won a top award for their efforts.
Tune in next week for more updates from the Ipswich Council.
