School holiday moviegoers have plenty to look forward to at Limelight Cinemas, with two major family-friendly releases arriving on the big screen this week alongside a range of exclusive collectable merchandise.
The latest additions to the cinema’s school holiday lineup are Minions and Monsters and Supergirl, offering audiences everything from animated chaos and comedy to superhero action and intergalactic adventure.
Limelight Cinemas manager Lex said both films are expected to be popular with families looking for entertainment during the winter school holiday period.
Minions Return in Hollywood Adventure
Leading the new releases is Minions and Monsters, which sees the beloved yellow troublemakers heading to Hollywood in search of stardom.
However, as fans have come to expect from the Minions, things quickly spiral out of control.
The story follows the lovable characters as they accidentally unleash monsters into the world while chasing their dreams of becoming movie stars, forcing them to step up and save the day.
“It’s all about the Minions trying to make it big in Hollywood,” Lex explained.
“Unfortunately, they unleash monsters and chaos, so they have to fix the mess they’ve created.”
To celebrate the release, Limelight Cinemas has introduced a range of exclusive themed merchandise, including collectible drink cups and popcorn tubs inspired by the film.
One of the standout items is a limited-edition light-up popcorn holder featuring a Minion emerging from a spell book, complete with an illuminated tentacle effect.
The collectable is expected to be highly sought after following the success of recent movie merchandise releases.
“Buzz Lightyear merchandise sold out by Sunday last week, and we have even fewer of these available,” Lex said.
“If people want one, they’ll need to get in quickly.”
Supergirl Takes Flight
Also arriving this week is Supergirl, bringing one of DC Comics’ most iconic heroes back to the big screen.
The film stars Australian actress Milly Alcock in the title role and follows Supergirl as she embarks on a galaxy-spanning adventure alongside fan-favourite anti-hero Jason Momoa.
Joined by her loyal canine companion Krypto, Supergirl must navigate a dangerous interstellar journey while confronting threats across the universe.
The film blends action, humour and heart, offering a fresh take on the beloved superhero character while expanding the DC cinematic universe.
Lex believes the combination of a strong cast, action-packed storyline and the introduction of Krypto will make the film a major drawcard for audiences.
“It’s a really fun adventure and having Krypto along for the ride adds something special,” she said.
Busy School Holiday Season Continues
The latest releases continue what has already been a hectic school holiday period for Limelight Cinemas.
The cinema has experienced strong attendance across a range of family films and special events, with staff preparing for another busy week as holiday crowds continue to flock to screenings.
According to Lex, there is still one more major family release scheduled before the school holidays conclude, ensuring plenty of entertainment options remain available for local families.
“These school holidays are only just getting started,” she said.
“We’ve still got another release coming next week, so there’s plenty more to look forward to.”
Collectables Expected to Sell Fast
Movie fans interested in the exclusive merchandise are being encouraged to visit early, with limited stock available across several items.
Recent releases have seen premium collectables sell out within days, and early demand for the Minions and Monsters merchandise suggests a similar response is likely.
Both Minions and Monsters and Supergirl are now screening at Limelight Cinemas.
