đ§ Overpass Repairs Begin, But Community Still Demands Action
Member for Ipswich West, Wendy Bourne MP, says long-overdue works on the Mount Crosby Road overpass have begun â but the broader community demand for a permanent interchange upgrade remains unaddressed. The overpass, damaged by a wind turbine crash, is now the focus of night works (8pmâ5am) expected to run for four weeks, weather permitting. âThis incident has really exacerbated the need for the full interchange upgrade,â Bourne said, adding that locals and businesses have been left in the dark and are âunderstandably angry.â
âď¸ Domestic Violence and Elder Abuse Under the Spotlight
Bourne travelled to Cairns recently as part of a public inquiry into domestic and family violence legislation, listening to stories from affected locals. She also highlighted Ipswichâs own upcoming role in the Elder Abuse Inquiry, with a public hearing scheduled for June 16 from 1â3pm at Ipswich Sports Club, Leichhardt. âItâs vital our community has their say on this issue,â Bourne said.
đď¸ Heritage Protection and Legal Rights Debated in Parliament
In State Parliament, Bourne voiced concerns over potential plans to sell the North Ipswich Railway Workshops site, calling for community consultation before any decisions are made. She also criticised cuts to the Environmental Defenders Office, warning the move could limit public legal challenges to mining and development projects.
đď¸ Community and Commemoration
Bourne recently celebrated 25 years of service by local JP Sergeant Quentin Montague, attended Lycartâs Messy Play Day, and participated in a Cancer Council Biggest Morning Tea in Marburg that raised over $1,700. A standout moment, she said, was representing Ipswich West at the Bomber Command Commemorative Service at RAAF Base Amberley, honouring WWII aircrew â including her own grandfather, a Lancaster pilot.
đŞ Rosewood Show Returns
Looking ahead, Bourne invited locals to attend the Rosewood Show on June 27â28, which she is proud to be officially opening. âItâs a great family event â just go easy on the fast rides,â she joked.
