Limelight Cinemas is gearing up for a huge week of new releases, special screenings and anniversary celebrations, with everything from a Ridley Scott post-apocalyptic thriller to Harry Potter and Fast and Furious returning to the big screen.
Speaking on the Limelight Cinemas Podcast, Lex said this week’s major new release is The Dog Stars, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Ridley Scott.
The post-apocalyptic film features a strong cast including Josh Brolin, Guy Pearce, Alison Janney, Margaret Qualley and Benedict Wong.
Set in a world where a virus has devastated humanity, the story follows a survivor living at an abandoned airport alongside an ex-Marine as they attempt to survive in an increasingly dangerous world.
When a mysterious radio transmission suggests there could be other survivors elsewhere, it sparks a journey to discover whether life beyond their isolated existence might offer some hope.
Studio Ghibli festival continues
Limelight’s popular Studio Ghibli screenings are also continuing this week, with Spirited Away returning to the big screen.
The film will screen on Sunday and Wednesday as the cinema moves towards the final stages of its Studio Ghibli festival.
Lex said the retrospective had proven incredibly popular, with the previous week’s screening of Howl’s Moving Castle coming close to selling out.
The screenings have given longtime fans an opportunity to experience some of Studio Ghibli’s most celebrated films in a cinema while also introducing the movies to a new generation.
André Rieu comes to the big screen
Music fans haven’t been forgotten, with André Rieu’s 2026 Maastricht Summer Concert screening at Limelight this weekend.
The concert will be presented in both Gold and traditional cinemas, with strong demand already reported.
Saturday’s Gold screening was virtually sold out at the time of recording, although some tickets remained for Sunday and the traditional cinema sessions.
Lex said cinema concert experiences had become increasingly popular and offered audiences the next best thing to being at the live event.
Fast and Furious turns 25
Movie fans may also feel a little older this week, with the original The Fast and the Furious celebrating its 25th anniversary.
The film that launched one of cinema’s biggest action franchises is heading back to the big screen as part of the milestone.
The anniversary provides fans who saw the movie during its original release with the chance to revisit it in cinemas, while younger fans can experience the beginning of the franchise on the big screen.

Harry Potter celebrates 25 years
The anniversaries don’t stop there, with Harry Potter also receiving the 25th anniversary treatment.
Limelight has secured a limited range of Harry Potter collector merchandise to accompany the anniversary screenings, including a Sorting Hat popcorn container and a Hogwarts-style suitcase popcorn vessel.
Lex warned that stock was extremely limited and expected the collector items to prove popular with Harry Potter fans.
Collectors can also purchase the merchandise without having popcorn placed directly inside, with Limelight able to provide the popcorn separately for those wanting to keep their memorabilia clean.
With The Dog Stars, Studio Ghibli, André Rieu, Fast and Furious and Harry Potter all on the program, Limelight Cinemas is offering one of its most varied weeks of entertainment for moviegoers.
Tickets and session information are available through Limelight Cinemas.
