Ipswich nutrition coach and wellness advocate Loz is encouraging locals to rethink their snacking habits, sharing three simple swaps to help people feel fuller and more energised throughout the day.
Speaking on West Bremer Radio, Loz said snacks weren’t the enemy but admitted many popular choices “are about as useful as chocolate tape.” She explained that easy changes can make a big difference.
Her first tip is to replace “crash-and-burn” foods like chocolate bars and chips with more sustaining options. “Protein bars or Greek yoghurt will give your metabolism a high five instead of a sugar crash,” she said. Stevia-sweetened products were another smart choice for those battling a sweet tooth without spiking insulin levels.
For people craving crunch, Loz recommended swapping chips for plain popcorn or roasted chickpeas. “They give you the crunch without the coma,” she joked, adding that many people are surprised by how tasty chickpeas can be.
When it comes to lollies, Loz said they provide little more than “a sugar spike and regret.” Instead, she suggested dark chocolate or dried fruit, combined into a homemade trail mix with nuts and seeds. “You’ll still get that dopamine hit, but with the bonus of antioxidants and fibre,” she explained.
Loz also launched her 14-day “Snack Attack Rehab Challenge,” which runs throughout October. The program, costing $47, is designed to give participants practical hacks to improve their snack choices. “If your snack life looks like a crime scene by 3pm, this challenge is for you,” she said.
