In a heartbreaking act of cruelty, two young puppies were discovered abandoned in bushland at Chuwar on Saturday, July 12, with their mouths taped shut and evidence of all four legs having been bound.
The RSPCA Queensland is urgently appealing for public assistance after the shocking find along Robin Street. The 4 to 5-month-old pups were discovered by a caring member of the public, who managed to capture one of the frightened dogs. The second puppy, traumatised and still on the run, was safely recovered the following day by RSPCA Inspectors, with the help of its rescued littermate who encouraged it to come closer.
“This is one of the most disturbing cases of abandonment we’ve seen,” said RSPCA Qld Chief Inspector.
“These puppies were left defenceless and in a condition that could have easily led to prolonged suffering or death if they had not been found in time.”
The Chief Inspector also praised the emotional resilience and dedication of frontline staff:
“These situations are incredibly distressing and can take a real emotional toll. Their professionalism and compassion in the face of such cruelty deserve the highest recognition.”
⚖️ Legal Action Looms
The Animal Care and Protection Act 2001 makes it an offence to abandon or harm an animal. Penalties include:
- Up to $322,600 in fines or 3 years imprisonment for general cruelty
- Up to 7 years imprisonment for serious cruelty under the Criminal Code Act 1899
The RSPCA is determined to find those responsible and is urging anyone with information about the incident or who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area to come forward.

🐶 Puppies Safe and Recovering
Both puppies are now safe in RSPCA care, receiving veterinary attention, food, and comfort.
The Chief Inspector added a heartfelt reminder:
“There are always alternatives to dumping animals. Whether it’s surrendering to a shelter, contacting a rescue group, or asking for help — abandonment is never the answer.”
The RSPCA has thanked the community member whose quick action helped save the dogs and urges anyone with further information to come forward to help bring justice in this disturbing case.
