Wet weather disrupted much of last weekend’s Ipswich Cricket fixtures, leaving only a handful of matches to be played. Despite the rain, there were some key takeaways for local teams as the season progresses.

President of Ipswich Cricket, Simon Emmerson, provided updates on the action:

  • Men’s First Grade: Limited to just a few overs before rain washed out the match. However, the team showed promise in their brief time on the field.
  • Men’s Second Grade: Building momentum, the team secured first-innings points from their previous match and had their opponents on the back foot before the rain halted play. This result pushes the young side into the top four, signaling strong finals potential. “This weekend against University of Queensland will be a big test to see where we stand,” Emmerson said.

Lord Taverners Season Wraps Up
The Lord Taverners team faced a tough loss against a strong University of Queensland side in their final match of the season. Despite the defeat, the team had a competitive season, staying in contention in most matches. “The points table doesn’t reflect the talent and effort of the group,” noted Emmerson.

Rebecca McCombs Cup Action
In the women’s competition, the Rebecca McCombs Cup team continued to develop, with a standout performance from Lukasiu Kendrick, who scored an unbeaten 30 runs. “It’s a work in progress, but the small wins are great to see,” Emmerson added.

Upcoming Fixtures
This weekend, Ipswich’s first and second-grade men’s teams will face University of Queensland. First grade will look to climb the ladder, while second grade aims to test their mettle against the table leaders.
