The excitement is building as the 2023 Ipswich Sports Awards reveal their finalists across all eight categories.
Councillor Andrew Fechner, Chairperson of Ipswich City Council’s Community, Culture, Arts and Sport Committee, noted the increasing quality and quantity of nominations each year.
He emphasized the vital role of sports in keeping people active, healthy, and connected to their community. Recognizing the contributions of volunteers, officials, players, and organizations is paramount.
Fechner highlighted the booming participation in grassroots sports throughout Ipswich, with more individuals of all ages enjoying local fields, courts, tracks, and pools than ever before.
He also commended the city for its impressive performance at the representative and elite levels, producing athletes and teams that bring pride to the community.
Now in its fourteenth year, the Ipswich Sports Awards stand as a testament to celebrating sports at every echelon.
The council actively maintains over 360 community sporting facilities, investing $6 million annually for their upkeep.
In the 2023-2024 Budget, the council has allocated $6.4 million to enhance sporting infrastructure citywide. The commitment to providing Ipswich with top-notch facilities, exemplified by locations like Springfield Central and Silver Jubilee sports fields, remains unwavering.
