Ipswich’s creative and history-loving communities are being called on to uncover and share the stories of Rosewood in a new video competition as part of the Australian Heritage Festival

Local arts advocate Glen Smith and guest Jenny from the Rosewood History Group joined Get Your Arts in Gear on West Bremer Radio to officially launch Rosewood Unearthed—a storytelling project inviting residents and students to create short films exploring the town’s past.

Inspired by popular YouTuber “Walk About with Rob,” who’s also presenting a live talk at Rosewood Library on April 26, the competition encourages people to capture local history in up to five minutes of video. Whether it’s a tale about a historic building, a family memory, or even a touch of Rosewood shenanigans, all stories are welcome.

“It doesn’t have to be polished—just passionate,” said Jenny. “You can film it on your phone and upload it to your YouTube channel, then submit the link via rosewoodhistory.au.”

The competition is free to enter and open to all Australians, with bonus prizes available for entries from within Ipswich. The top prize? A generous $500, sponsored by local businesses including PRD Realty, Bougens Electrical, George’s Garage, and the Rosewood Hotel—all of which have their own historic backstories.

“Everyone’s got a story,” said Jenny. “And this is a great way to preserve local history for future generations.”

Submissions are open now and close on May 18, aligning with the end of the Australian Heritage Festival. Whether you’re a student, a history buff, or just someone with a great yarn, Rosewood Unearthed is your chance to leave a creative mark on the community.
