For 28 years, SeniorNet Ipswich has been empowering seniors with essential technology skills, and the group is stronger than ever.

Councillor Pye Augustine recently visited the group, now based at Raceview’s Wildley Street Church Hall, to see firsthand the work they’re doing to help locals aged 50 and over navigate the digital world.

“They offer training in everything from basic computer skills to email management, PowerPoint presentations, and even using iPhones and tablets,” Cr Augustine said.

One of SeniorNet’s key focuses is online safety, helping seniors explore platforms like Facebook while avoiding scams and privacy risks.

But technology training isn’t the only offering—family history research and DNA exploration are also popular among members.

“You can learn about your ancestry, whether you come from early settlers, convicts, or have unexpected heritage like Italian, German, or African roots,” Cr Augustine explained.

Beyond learning, SeniorNet fosters a strong social community with regular coffee catch-ups, guest speaker events, and group lunches.

“I walked into their meeting and had about 50 faces staring back at me—it’s a really active group,” Cr Augustine said.
