Labor’s Shayne Neumann has been returned as the Member for Blair for a record seventh term, following a decisive win in Saturday’s federal election.
Mr Neumann described the result as humbling and thanked the people of Ipswich and the Somerset region for their continued support.
“It is an honour to represent an area in which my family has lived for seven generations,” he said.
“I could not have done this without the hard work and dedication of so many volunteers and supporters.”
The veteran MP said he was proud to continue serving as part of a re-elected Albanese Labor Government and outlined a strong focus on delivering infrastructure and services for the fast-growing electorate.
Key campaign priorities included a long-term solution for the Amberley Interchange, major upgrades to the Brisbane Valley Highway, and a new rugby league and sports centre in the Ripley Valley. Mr Neumann also committed to expanding the Chuwar Koala and Native Fauna Conservation Park and delivering new facilities such as a headspace mental health centre in Redbank Plains and a House of India community and cultural centre.
Further funding promises include more courts for Ipswich Basketball, upgrades to the Fernvale Sports Park, a major upgrade of the Lowood Pool, and improvements to the Springfield Central YMCA.
Mr Neumann said voters had responded to the Albanese Government’s plan for the future, which includes tax cuts, cheaper childcare, HECS debt relief, free TAFE, affordable health care, and support for first home buyers.
“I look forward to delivering on these promises and have already hit the ground running,” he said.
The result cements Mr Neumann’s place as one of Ipswich’s longest-serving federal representatives.
