If you’re tired but wired, running on caffeine and chaos, and finding yourself wide awake at 2am rehashing conversations from years ago — you’re not alone. Health and wellness coach Loz from Loz Life joined The Brekkie Club on West Bremer Radio to share her top tips for fixing what she calls “an overcooked nervous system” and reclaiming a good night’s sleep.
According to Loz, poor sleep is often the result of overstimulation rather than insomnia. “Your brain isn’t broken — it’s just overstimulated,” she said. “If you’re scrolling TikTok in bed, that blue light is literally telling your brain it’s midday.” Her first tip? Set a phone curfew — no screen time 30 minutes before bed, or invest in blue light-blocking glasses to protect your body’s natural sleep rhythm.
Her second tip targets those running on stress rather than coffee. “That wired-but-tired feeling is cortisol doing the cha-cha in your bloodstream,” Loz explained. She recommends deep breathing or journaling before bed to help the body dump stress and regulate hormones. And if you rely on that late-afternoon coffee fix? Loz warns caffeine has a six-hour half-life — meaning your 3pm latte could still be keeping you awake at 9pm.
Finally, Loz says most people don’t need an elaborate skincare routine — they need a three-step “brain wind-down.” Her formula: dim the lights, stretch the body, and practice box breathing — inhale for four counts, hold for four, exhale for four, and hold again. “It’s simple, but it works better than melatonin gummies,” she said.
For those wanting to take their sleep to the next level, Loz is hosting a “Sleep Like a Boss” Masterclass this Friday via Zoom. The session promises practical hacks to “knock out stress, reset your routine, and wake up actually feeling human.”
Tickets and details are available at lozlife.com, where listeners can also find her social links and discounts on wellness tools.
“Before you reach for that third cup of coffee,” she joked, “fix your sleep — it’s the ultimate power move.”
