Local Women’s Art Collective to Launch ‘Tarts & Friands’ Show Celebrating Creativity, Community and Legacy

IPSWICH, QLD — A unique blend of creativity, community spirit, and sweet treats will be served up when the Tuesday Tarts, a beloved Ipswich women’s art collective, launches their latest exhibition, “Tarts & Friands”, at the Arts Connect Community Gallery in Booval Fair from June 18, with the official opening at 2:30pm on Saturday, June 21.

Formed out of shared passion for art and food, the group – including well-known local names Toni Risson, Mardi Keane, and Anna Maria – has been meeting every Tuesday to create, share ideas, and enjoy a tart (or two).

“It started with Tuesdays and tarts, and now we’re showcasing years of creativity and friendship,” said Risson. “We even have a few ‘free-ends’ joining us – including local artist Leanne Walker and my brother!”

🎭 A Celebration of Local Legends and Lost Friends

The exhibition also features a special tribute to Jane Davis, a founding member and respected artist who passed away. Several of Jane’s mosaics and artworks will be on display, with thanks to her husband Gary.

“Jane was the heart of the Tarts,” said Mardi Keane. “Her legacy lives on through her work and the bonds she helped create.”

🎨 Interactive and Immersive Exhibition

Unlike traditional galleries, this exhibit will be interactive:

  • Live art-making by the Tuesday Tarts every Wednesday during the exhibition
  • Mini workshops including $5 ceramic painting sessions with Mardi
  • Live storytelling sessions with Toni, where visitors can share a secret and receive a short story in return
  • Cookbook displays and maybe even a sample of Anna Maria’s famous apple tart

“It’s not just an exhibition – it’s a creative experience,” said Toni. “We’re not here to sit still and stare at the walls.”
