The Breakky Club chats with Mayor Of Ipswich – Teresa Harding.
Brighton Homes Arena in Springfield Central, Ipswich, is being considered as the natural choice to host the Brisbane Lions’ AFL team during the Gabba reconstruction. The purpose-built AFL stadium already accommodates the AFLW team and offers elite training and recovery facilities for both men’s and women’s AFL. The cost to upgrade Brighton Homes Arena for the men’s team is around half the expense of retrofitting the heritage RNA site. Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding highlights the existing amenities, including warm-up and recovery facilities, broadcast technology, and a high-quality playing surface. The Queensland Government’s investment in Brighton Homes Arena would spread the benefits of the 2032 Games beyond Brisbane and support the growing AFLW league. An expansion of the arena would complement Ipswich City Council’s investment in transforming the Ipswich CBD into a premier dining and entertainment precinct.
