Meet Ipswich’s newest and possibly cutest resident, Dublin, a donkey foal born at Queensland’s largest working llama farm, The Llama Farm, located in Pine Mountain. The arrival of Dublin, son of Doris and Dougal, adds to the charm of this unique farm, already home to a vast array of animals.

Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding highlighted the growing appeal of farm visit experiences in the region. “Spending the day patting, cuddling, and feeding adorable animals is always a day well spent, and the latest Tourism Research Australia visitor data shows people agree,” Mayor Harding said. “We have seen a massive increase over the past year of day trippers visiting Ipswich, which has climbed by 19 per cent to more than 1.5 million visitors.”

The surge in visitors also brings significant economic benefits, with $325.5 million spent in the local economy during the same period. Mayor Harding emphasized that while Ipswich’s rich history, nature, culinary experiences, and major events continue to draw crowds, the expansion of farm experiences has been particularly noteworthy.

The Llama Farm, managed by owner Shane Hancock, offers a unique experience with its impressive menagerie. “We are home to the largest herd of llamas in Queensland, alongside four alpacas, 19 donkeys, four camels, 12 goats, miniature ponies, six rabbits, three emus, two dogs, and various poultry,” Mr. Hancock shared. He noted the farm’s emphasis on hands-on experiences, such as guided llama walks and farm tours, allowing visitors to interact closely with the animals.

Mr. Hancock’s personal connection with the animals, knowing each by name and personality, adds to the farm’s charm. “We are not a food production farm, so we are really close with all our animals,” he said, recounting stories of their antics.

The farm’s appeal has led to growing visitor numbers, especially repeat visitors who appreciate the unique and authentic farm experience.
