The All Ability Hour on West Bremer Radio has once again showcased the power of inclusion, talent, and advocacy, broadcasting live from the new Focal Community Services offices in Ipswich.
This month’s program featured Jayden, a performer from Focal’s recent talent show who wowed the audience with a song from Hamilton. But singing is just one of Jayden’s many skills—he also crochets, creates digital art, and is studying youth work while working in child protection.
Jayden shared his powerful journey of being diagnosed with autism as a teenager and how it shaped his determination to advocate for young people in foster care. “I don’t want any other young person to have to go through the same thing I did,” he said. Now a national youth consultant with the Create Foundation, Jayden advises government leaders, including federal ministers, on reforming Australia’s care system.
He also spoke about his upcoming stall at the Black Light Furry Market in Brisbane later this month, where he will sell handmade crochet accessories and plushies. “I like putting myself out there and being active in the community,” he said.
The show also welcomed Derelle, another talented Focal performer, who sang High School Musical hits at the talent show and is preparing for a performance at the Fresh Futures Market—an event connecting young people with opportunities in the Ipswich community.
Co-hosts Sparky and Patty said stories like Jayden’s and Derelle’s highlight the resilience, creativity and contribution of people with disabilities. “It’s a reminder that being different is a strength, not a weakness,” they said.
The All Ability Hour airs monthly on West Bremer Radio, celebrating inclusion and giving a platform to voices that inspire change across Ipswich and beyond.
