Ipswich Cricket has faced a tough month with persistent rain disrupting play. President Simon Emmerson remains optimistic as the fields dry out, saying, “The weather’s been challenging, but the Ivor Marsden ground is looking great, and we’re eager to get back on the field.”
Men’s First Grade: Grand Final Rematch
The men’s first-grade team gears up for a crucial Saturday-Sunday clash against Norths at Baxter Oval. “This is a grand final rematch and a big game for us. Both teams are vying for top-four positions,” Emerson shared. While Jack Wood’s absence is a setback, the team is nearly at full strength and hopes to build on their recent batting confidence.
Second Grade: Bolstering Experience
The second-grade squad also faces Norths in a vital two-day match. Despite some younger players heading home for holidays, the team has added experienced players, including Jack Little, a former Hornets opener, and Dom Donaldson. Emerson noted, “While we’re short on numbers, the experience these players bring is invaluable.”
Women’s Second Grade: Road Trip to Sunny Coast
The women’s second-grade team heads to the Sunshine Coast this Sunday. Both teams sit in the lower half of the table, presenting a strong opportunity for Ipswich. “This is the strongest lineup we’ve had, and I’m confident the girls will put in a solid effort,” Emerson stated.
Rebecca McCombs Cup: Youthful Development
The Rebecca McCombs Cup team travels to Fred Kratzman Oval to face Redlands. Emerson emphasized the focus on development, saying, “The girls have been training hard, and this match is another step forward for them.”
Stay tuned next week for match results and updates as Ipswich Cricket looks to bounce back and make its mark on the season.
