Ipswich West MP Wendy Bourne has had a busy month, meeting with residents, celebrating local seniors and businesses, and highlighting the importance of being prepared for the summer storm season.

Speaking on West Bremer Radio, Ms Bourne said a recent community meeting in Rosewood drew around 70 people keen to learn more about a proposed 93-lot housing development at 15 Edward Street.

“It was great to see Ipswich City Council and local councillors Jim Madden and Dave Martin attend,” she said. “Developers should do this more often — actually meet the community, listen, and take on board local expertise.”

October is Seniors Month, and Ms Bourne has been out and about celebrating older residents. She attended both the Ipswich Seniors Expo at the Showgrounds and the Rosewood Seniors Expo, praising the events for connecting residents with vital services and programs.

“It’s wonderful to see how engaged our seniors are,” she said. “I was also able to talk about the Elder Abuse Inquiry, which I’m part of. We’ll be reporting our findings in December, and it’s a very important issue.”

The MP also congratulated the region’s small businesses following the Ipswich Chamber of Commerce 2025 Business Excellence Awards.

“It was an incredible night celebrating the many amazing businesses that serve our community,” Ms Bourne said.

With storm season approaching, she’s urging residents to prepare early.

“Check on your neighbours, especially seniors who might hesitate to use air conditioning in the heat,” she said. “Make sure your home and family are ready for whatever comes.”

Residents will soon have a chance to meet Ms Bourne in person at her next mobile office at Yamanto Central Shops on Saturday, November 1, from 10am to noon.

“Come and have a chat — tell me what’s working and what’s not,” she said.

Ms Bourne also joined Federal MP Shane Newman and Deputy Opposition Leader Cameron Dick for a tour of White Industries, a long-standing Ipswich manufacturer.

“They’re Queensland’s largest privately-owned foundry, operating for more than 65 years,” she said. “They employ apprentices and are a fantastic example of local industry leading the way.”

She also praised Youth Parliamentarian Harrison Rule, who represents Ipswich West in the Queensland Youth Parliament.

“He’s an outstanding young man who volunteers for Meals on Wheels and Rosies,” she said. “He’s a great example of the next generation of community leaders.”

With just weeks left in the year, Ms Bourne said her focus remains on listening to locals and supporting community-driven progress.
