It’s now time to get the Community that Matters into your ears with the Community Matters segment because it matters. It matters a lot to Councillor Pye Augustine. Good morning Councillor. Oh good morning Sparky. Alright now of course Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC Week are not too far around the corner but this week you want to chat about an Indigenous artist in Redbank Plains.
00:29
Yeah, I thought, well, you know, we’ve got NAIDOC week and Reconciliation week just around the corner. I thought, yeah, so, you know, there’s going to be a lot of different functions being held. And, um, I thought, why not introduce this artist, down at Redbank Plains. Her name is Krystal Hurst. She does a lot of different indigenous artwork and in particular, she’s got a lot of different earrings. Now the earrings they’re made.

to represent like galahs and cockatoos and kookaburras. And she’s also got, this one’s my favorite. I’ve actually bought these earrings and they’re emu earrings, just the feathers of the emu. Yeah, and so they’re very beautiful. And so I love those ones. And there’s leafs and all different sort of indigenous sort of artwork incorporated in these earrings. So.
01:24
It’s a good time to have a look and get them if you always in particularly if you’re going to any of the The events that have been held around Ipswich, but she’s also got different artworks on prints that you can have a look at all Indigenous all that she’s done. So get onto her website. Her website is Gilawara Arts So that’s g i l l a w a r r a And have a look at all of her artwork. she does come from
01:53
the northern beaches of New South Wales. We won’t hold that against her. But she’s up here, she’s been here for the last two years, living in Redbank Plains and really doing some really good artwork. So get on there, have a look at what she’s got. Telling you now, you won’t be disappointed. All right, so now you got the Emu earrings. You reckon you’re gonna go for another type of earring? You’re eyeing another one off?
02:21
I’ve got the emu earrings, but I’ve also got like a leaf, like gum leaf as well that she’s carved out. And she’s, yeah, I’ve got those. I love those as well, because they drop down really nicely. So yeah, I’ll go and get a couple more as well, because they’re really great, because they’re done with things that are in nature. And that’s the premise of her artwork, is taking things from nature and be able to create it again. So yeah, she loves it.
02:50
She’s got a real affinity with the earth. So yeah, she’s a great artist. Absolutely, go and check her out. We will put a link up on our website with the web link of where Councillor Augustine asked you to go and go and check it out and support a local Ipswich business within the Redbank Plains area. Appreciate it Councillor Augustine, we’ll chat to you next week. Look forward to it as usual.
