Ipswich is gearing up for a busy Easter school holiday period, with Bluey and Bingo set to return to the Nicholas Street Precinct as part of a wider program of free and low-cost activities across the city.

Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said the popular Blue Heeler siblings will perform three shows a day at Tulmur Place from Tuesday, April 7 to Friday, April 10, marking their first appearance in the precinct since 2022. The daily shows will run at 10.30am, 11.30am and 12.30pm, with interactive games and activities expected to draw large crowds of families and children.

The school holiday program extends well beyond Nicholas Street, with Ipswich Libraries offering workshops in origami, cartooning, music production and robotics, while the Ipswich Art Gallery is hosting Light Play, an interactive exhibition combining art and science through kaleidoscopic displays aimed at young audiences.

For more active children, council’s Active Kids program is also returning, with more than 70 classes planned across 22 suburbs. Mayor Harding said the initiative offered a valuable way to get children outdoors and away from screens during the break.

The Mayor also highlighted the recent Ipswich round of the Queensland Pedal Prix Super Series, held at the Briggs Road criterium track, where school teams competed in pedal-powered endurance racing. Bundamba State Secondary College was the only Ipswich school to take part this year, with council hopeful more schools would join the event in future.

Meanwhile, art lovers are being encouraged to visit the Ipswich Art Gallery for a major new retrospective of works by acclaimed Australian artist Leonard Brown. The exhibition, featuring around 100 works spanning more than five decades, includes charcoal sketches, abstract paintings and Byzantine-inspired pieces, and will run until June 14. Brown’s work is held in major public collections including the National Gallery of Australia, Queensland Art Gallery and the Art Gallery of New South Wales.

Mayor Harding said the exhibition reflects Ipswich’s ambition to grow as a creative city while also giving residents and visitors more reasons to experience the city during the holiday period.
