This Tuesday on West Bremer Radio, listeners were treated to an engaging discussion about the highly anticipated One Act Play Festival with special guest Aaron Evans from Ipswich Little Theatre. Hosted by Glen Smith and Brad, the segment delved into the vibrant theatre scene and the upcoming festival that promises to be a highlight for drama enthusiasts in Southeast Queensland.

Evans, recently returned from adjudicating one-act plays in Dalby, shared his excitement about the festival’s growth and the diverse talent it attracts. “It’s a great weekend,” Evans noted, highlighting the wide range of plays from different regions, including Maleny and the Sunshine Coast. He emphasized how the festival, which runs from July to September, has been expanding since he started participating in 2010.

The One Act Play Festival features theatre groups from across Southeast Queensland presenting plays that range from 20 to 50 minutes. These plays travel to various theatres, including those in Ipswich, the Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba, and Beenleigh, where they are adjudicated and have the chance to win awards.

Evans, a seasoned participant, will be showcasing his own play, “Coming Soon,” at the Ipswich Little Theatre on August 10. The play, a thriller, explores the tense dynamics among eight cinema employees who must identify a thief within their ranks to avoid being fired. Despite its intense premise, the play also subtly addresses issues related to the casual workforce and workplace politics.

In addition to the One Act Play Festival, Evans also spoke about the Ipswich Little Theatre’s Young Theatricals’ upcoming production, “Antigone 3021.” Directed by Jessica and Matt Groves, this futuristic take on the Greek tragedy features a cast of talented young actors aged 12 to 18. The production will be performed this weekend, with tickets priced at $12 for concessions and $15 for adults, available at www.ilt.org.au.

As the radio segment wrapped up, the hosts and Evans encouraged the community to support local theatre by attending the festival and the youth production. “These young actors need our support,” Glen Smith emphasized, underscoring the importance of audience engagement in enriching the theatrical experience.

Mark your calendars for the One Act Play Festival on August 9-11 at Ipswich Little Theatre and don’t miss “Antigone 3021” this weekend. Both events promise to deliver compelling performances and showcase the exceptional talent within the community.
