Councillor Pye Augustine is gearing up for the Renegade Bowman’s upcoming State Titles, set to take place in Swanbank on October 5th and 6th. During a segment on West Bremer Radio’s Brekkie Club, Councillor Augustine shared her excitement after visiting the archery club and getting hands-on with a bow and arrow.
“I got my ‘Katniss Everdeen’ on,” joked Augustine, referring to the famous Hunger Games character. The Renegade Bowman, located deep in Swanbank, will welcome around 150 archers from across Queensland for the two-day competition. The event promises a challenging mix of bush courses with targets hidden throughout the terrain, offering a unique twist to traditional target archery.
Augustine noted that last year’s national titles were unfortunately washed out due to heavy rains, which made access to the property impossible. “Fingers and toes crossed that we don’t get any rain this time around so the state titles can go ahead smoothly,” she said.
Beyond the competition, the event also fosters a sense of community. After the day’s archery rounds, participants gather around a bonfire, enjoy live music, and swap stories. Augustine shared how much she enjoyed the experience, even trying her hand at tomahawk throwing, another thrilling aspect of the event.
The Renegade Bowman’s range is located in a secluded area along Swanbank Road, ensuring safety for participants. Augustine praised the club for its strong safety measures and highlighted the club’s connection to Paralympic archer Taymon Kenton-Smith, who competed in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

As the State Titles approach, the Renegade Bowman and Councillor Augustine are hopeful for clear skies and a successful event that will draw archers from all over Australia.
