In the lead-up to the October 26 Queensland state election, Charis Mullen, MP for the seat of Jordan, joined West Bremer Radio’s State of Play segment to discuss key government initiatives and election preparations. Mullen highlighted the positive response to the recently introduced 50-cent public transport fares, which will become permanent if re-elected. Commuters, especially in outer metropolitan areas, are now saving over $100 per fortnight. “It’s making a big impact on people’s budgets and helping to reduce congestion on the roads,” she explained, noting that public transport usage has returned to pre-COVID levels.

In addition, Mullen discussed the state government’s 20% vehicle registration discount, another critical cost-saving measure designed to ease financial pressure. “Whether paying monthly, quarterly, or annually, everyone will benefit from the discount,” Mullen assured, addressing common concerns about the timing of the discount’s rollout.

Touching on funding, Mullen explained that the government’s cost-of-living relief measures are financed through progressive coal royalties, ensuring that Queenslanders benefit from the state’s resources. “We’re committed to helping people who are struggling by reinvesting this revenue back into the community,” she said.

As election day approaches, Mullen outlined several voting options available to Queenslanders. Early voting will be available from October 14 to October 25, with polling stations open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Postal voting applications are also now open.

Mullen expressed confidence in the upcoming election, citing her government’s achievements and ongoing commitment to addressing community needs. “Every election is important, and I feel good about our chances,” she concluded.
