Ipswich residents are gearing up for the Sustainable Living Festival, set to take place on October 19 at Tulmur Place in the Nicholas Street precinct. Hosted by Ipswich City Council, this festival is part of the broader Sustainable Ipswich Month, which spans October and November.

Mayor Teresa Harding expressed excitement about the festival’s return after last year’s success. “Residents can learn about sustainable gardens, mending clothes, crocheting, and even emergency preparedness,” she said. The event will feature free workshops, kids’ activities, and tips on living a cleaner, greener lifestyle.

A special guest appearance by ABC Gardening Australia’s Hannah Maloney is a key highlight. Maloney will share sustainable gardening tips and sign copies of her book Good Life Growing. Additionally, Quibble Markets will host a pop-up booth, offering secondhand clothing and unique wardrobe finds.

Alongside the festival, Ipswich’s commitment to sustainability is set to grow with the expansion of the Council’s Bushcare program. “We’re proud to announce three new volunteer-led Bushcare groups in Ipswich,” said Mayor Harding. These groups, located at Benyella Road Reservoir in Thagoona, Bridgewater Park in Springfield, and Tite Family Park in Bundamba, will focus on keeping the city’s bushland clean and green. Volunteers are encouraged to join, with all necessary equipment and training provided by the Council.

On the political front, early voting for the Division 4 by-election has begun. Residents from North Ipswich to Rosewood can vote at pre-polling booths, open until election day. “This by-election is costing us $400,000, but it’s important everyone has their say,” said Harding. Polling booths are located across the region, with voter information cards sent via mail or email for a quicker voting process.
