Division 4 of Ipswich is buzzing with Christmas cheer as its festive program gets into full swing. Councillor Jim Madden joined West Bremer Radio to share highlights from the Christmas in Ipswich calendar and discuss meaningful local initiatives.
Christmas Celebrations in Full Swing
The annual Christmas Lights Competition is now open, inviting residents and businesses to light up Ipswich and compete for over $8,000 in cash and prizes. Families can also drop off letters to Santa at local libraries or UB’s Milk Bar, with Santa promising replies before the big day.
This Thursday, the city Christmas tree will be lit at d’Arcy Doyle Place at 7 PM, following a 5 PM community event. Division 4’s festivities continue with the Brassall Christmas in the Park at Sutton Park on December 1 and carols at The Rise and Pine Mountain on December 7 and 13, respectively.
Resilient Homes Fund and Community Feedback
Ipswich City Council is seeking input on the future use of over 500,000 square meters of land purchased through the Resilient Homes Fund Voluntary Buyback Program. These properties, formerly prone to flooding, will be rezoned as non-occupiable green spaces. Residents are encouraged to share ideas via Shape Your Ipswich until December 8.
Pop-up feedback events will begin this Saturday, including one in North Ipswich on December 7 at Cribb Park. Councillor Madden urged residents to participate: “Your input is vital as we shape the future of these spaces.”
Honouring Local Legacy
A new monument was unveiled this week at Lobly Park, Churchill, celebrating the century-long contributions of the Kedges family. From bricklaying to operating Kedges Farm Equipment, the family’s legacy remains a pillar of the Ipswich community.
