State Member for Bundamba, Lance McCallum, joined West Bremer Radio this week to dissect a dramatic week in Queensland Parliament and look ahead to a pivotal federal election.
McCallum described Wednesday’s scenes in Parliament as “extraordinary,” after the government lost a vote aimed at silencing their own Treasurer, David Janetzki. The Treasurer was under pressure over the Kaleida Power Station explosion, with Opposition Leader Steven Miles asking a simple yes or no question about whether Janetzki had seen photos from the day. “Apparently binary propositions are not his strong suit,” McCallum quipped.
Closer to home, McCallum expressed frustration over the delay in delivering more than $30 million worth of expanded bus services promised for Ipswich in last year’s budget. “The funding’s there, but the tenders only opened this month,” he said. “Our growing community deserves better.”
On a lighter note, McCallum welcomed Opposition Leader Steven Miles to the Western Spirit Football Club, supporting Labor’s call to continue $200 FairPlay sports vouchers in the upcoming state budget. “These vouchers help families, boost club numbers and get kids active—it’s a no-brainer,” he said.
With transport delays, political blunders, and federal election tensions rising, McCallum’s message was clear: the community needs action, not excuses. “We’re here to keep the pressure on,” he said.
