Division 3 is alive with Christmas cheer as Ipswich Central launches a packed program of festive events, markets, and community celebrations. Councillor Andrew Antoniolli says the region is ready for one of its busiest and brightest seasons yet.

Ipswich Central officially lit its stunning city Christmas tree in Darcy Doyle Place last night, signalling the start of the festive period. The display, which will shine throughout December, brings “peace, love and joy” to the heart of the city, Councillor Antonelli said.

Residents who missed the lighting can watch the full event on the West Bremer Radio Facebook page.

Shoppers and families will also enjoy a huge calendar of events at the Ipswich Showgrounds, including the Enchanted Christmas Twilight Event on Saturday, 6 December, and the Christmas Thrifty Threads Pre-Loved Market on Sunday, 14 December. Councillor Antoniolli said markets are ideal for finding “unique gifts for those hard-to-buy-for loved ones.”

Nicholas Street Precinct will once again transform into the magical St Nicholas Precinct from Friday, 12 December, offering 10 nights of spectacular lighting displays, entertainment, market stalls and a winter wonderland atmosphere—especially welcome in the current summer heat. A low-sensory night will be held on Monday, 15 December to provide a quieter, more accessible experience for families who need it.

A full list of activities is available on the Ipswich Festivals website.

A Busy End to the School Year
Councillor Antoniolli said councillors are deep into awards nights and school breakups, celebrating student achievements across Division 3. He has attended ceremonies at St Mary’s College, West Ipswich Special School, St Peter Claver College, and Ipswich Junior Grammar School.

“These young people are the future of Ipswich. For the Year 12s heading off to university or further training, we wish them every success,” he said.

Upgrades for Local Sport
Netball continues to boom in Ipswich, with participation growing up to 12 per cent annually. To support the demand, Ipswich Netball Association is upgrading its canteen and building new sheds at Limestone Park.

“The facilities are well used and overdue for an upgrade,” Councillor Antoniolli said. “Council has committed to supporting further improvements, especially for the canteen.”

Sporting Honour for Ipswich Great
Ipswich basketball legend Tony Caldwell has been inducted into the Queensland Basketball Hall of Fame. The former president of the Ipswich Basketball Association was celebrated for her outstanding contribution to the sport.

“We’re incredibly proud of her achievements. Tony has done so much for basketball in Ipswich,” Councillor Antoniolli said.

He wrapped up by wishing all residents a safe and joyful festive season.

“Merry Christmas to everyone across Division 3. I hope you all have a wonderful time with family and friends.”
