Ipswich is set to kick up its heels this week as the city hosts a free family-friendly pre-party ahead of Australia’s biggest country music festival, CMC Rocks QLD.
Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said the official CMC Rocks pre-party will take place at Tulmur Place on Thursday, March 19 from 4pm to 7pm, with another event scheduled for Saturday from 10am to 2pm.
The free event will feature live performances by Billy Vincent and Ruby Jane, line dancing demonstrations, and family activities including face painting, colouring stations and craft activities such as decorating bandanas and cowboy hats.
“It’s a great opportunity for families to come into the Nicholas Street Precinct and enjoy the country music atmosphere before the festival kicks off,” Cr Harding said.

Housing Projects Highlighted During Minister Visit
Meanwhile, the mayor also welcomed Queensland’s Housing and Public Works Minister Sam O’Connor to Ipswich during the week to inspect several community and housing initiatives.
The visit included a stop at Goodna Street Life, where volunteers provide assistance to vulnerable residents.
The minister also attended the opening of a new social housing development for women over 55 in the suburb of Béthania delivered by Community Housing Limited in partnership with the Queensland Government.
Cr Harding said the project demonstrated the type of targeted housing support communities had been calling for.
The minister also toured Ausco Modular in Ipswich, which builds modular housing designed to provide faster and more affordable accommodation solutions.
Community Input Sought on Local Laws
Ipswich City Council is also seeking community feedback as part of a review of its local laws.
The review will examine 17 key regulations, covering issues such as busking, outdoor dining, parking rules and neighbourhood matters.
Residents can provide feedback through the council’s Shape Your Ipswich website until April 6.
Citizenship Numbers Continue to Grow
The mayor also revealed that Ipswich continues to welcome growing numbers of new citizens, with 284 residents recently becoming Australian citizens at a local ceremony.
Ipswich City Council now holds around 10 citizenship ceremonies each year, welcoming approximately 3,000 new citizens annually.
Cr Harding said the figures reflected the city’s rapid growth and its appeal as a place for people to build their future.
