It’s a Friday morning heading into a wonderful weekend but before we get there we’ve got to find out what’s been happening in your division and today we are going to Division 2 and joining us on the line the Deputy Mayor and Division 2 Councillor Nicole Jonic, good morning.
00:16
Good morning, how are you? I am very well, it is good to talk to you. I did notice you out and about at the show, but we’ll talk about that at the end. But first of all, we’ve got to say anyone who is keen on using the Goodner Aquatic Centre, there’s been a bit of a closure there at the moment. Yeah, so some repairs are happening at the Goodner Aquatic Centre to the pool. It’s an expansion joint. Can you tell me what that is, Damien? No, I have no idea.
00:44
But I’m assuming it’s like a concrete thing, image you give me Bob, that needs attending to. So yes, there is some closure there, but we have other public pools. So we’ve got the Bundamba Swim Centre, the Georgie Conway Leichhardt Swim Centre, and obviously Orion Lagoon. They’ll all be open during the period when the Goodner Pool’s under repair. Fantastic. So still options there, but it’s getting a bit cool for swimming these days, isn’t it? I know, that’s why they tend to, look, I’m not an engineer.
01:11
but I’m pretty sure they tend to do these repairs in the cooler months. Yeah, alright. If you want further information and updates for other projects in Div 2, then all you have to do is jump on the Council’s interactive civic maps at ipswitch.qld.gov.au. Now, of course, there is some roadworks happening as well. Nightworks on the Centenary Motorway Exit 32 off-ramp. Yes, so the nightworks are continuing to get the Exit 30…
01:39
to off-ramp will be affected and it’s going to be extended into next week. So I know people don’t like roadworks right but people don’t like congested roads either so we’ve got to do these things so then we get better roads. So it’s a short-term pain for long-term gain but there’ll be traffic control and controllers there that will direct the traffic in place.
02:04
And this upgrade, the Springfield Parkway, Springfield Green Bank arterial is the biggest in council’s history by the way. That’s why it had to get broken up into three different pieces. And it’s not just us that need to do works, it’s all the underground works and stuff too, that I didn’t actually realise before I become a councillor. But there’s like 13 underground services that they need to move and fix and manoeuvre. So…
02:28
when people are like there’s no one there doing anything but usually it’s because it’s a lot of it’s water mains, it’s internet, it’s power but the info for those updates as well can be found in that interactive mapping too that you just listed before Damo there’ll be links there for this information. Yep all right fantastic and of course there is some other works there’s selective vegetation clearing within the Springfield Parkway road reserve towards stage one of the
02:58
Spri arterial intersection that’s taking place. It should be about up to eight weeks, yeah? Yeah, so at this stage we’re looking at eight weeks, the timing of that clearing. That’s weather permitting of course, so you know, but strict environmental controls are in place for that work, so there should be minimal impacts to traffic I guess during those works.
03:18
Yeah, I think so. We’re trying to make sure that the impact to road users and residents is kept to an absolute minimum. There’s also a council project for bus stop upgrades that are happening to existing bus stops along Lakeside Avenue and Springfield Lakes. Yep. So that work is getting undertaken so that it improves the usability of these bus stops for the accessibility for people with disability.
03:44
Yeah, all right, fantastic. Now, as we know, and we reported on a little bit earlier this month, the rebel domain zero depth water play area with the fantastic tipping bucket is closed to do some flooding repairs. Yeah. So the zero depth water play area, which is where the tipping bucket is, you know, your favourite demo. Oh, I know. There’s just some work that has to be done to rectify the.
04:12
damage sustained during the the flooding flash flooding so a lot of water come through Redbell domain because that’s a natural creek line and the plant room contains a dosing equipment and that kind of got inundated so they need to repair that. So that’s a quite a big repair job and work is expected to be finished in early September.
04:35
There was so much going on in that area, isn’t there? Look, I really encourage people to go onto that. It’s switch.qld.gov.au to follow those interactive civic maps because they kind of list out things that are happening now projects and things that are happening, going to be happening in the near future. And a lot of these things, when residents are actually impacted, the council engagement offices do actually reach out and send notices and things like that as well, but that website’s always handy.
05:02
Fantastic. Now, of course, we do have the Festival of Horsepower coming up, and I know you are going to be front and center. so your a Rev Head all right, good. Yeah, yeah, no, it’s going to be fantastic. So we’ve got obviously the, I’ll just call it the winter nats, right? Oh, the winter gnats, yep, yep. Yeah, so the winter gnats are coming up and I’m, you know, I always love to go out and see the winter gnats. Yes. And that’s part of that Festival of Force Power as well, because you’ve got the Ipswich Cup in there and all of these events put Ipswich on the map.
05:51
You’ve got like from one horsepower thing in a jig to the next really. And for the very first time this time around the Queensland Kart Championships as well. Yeah. So look, these things just get, keep getting better and better. Like our planes, trains and autos festival that just finished up a few weeks ago. Um, you know, there’s, you know, we’re always moving things into these event spaces new to make them new and interesting.
06:17
Yes. Not me personally, obviously the great events team and it’s Switch City Council. And so, you know, you never going to go and get the same thing with these events. Like they’re always just getting better and improving. And it’s, it’s really exciting and bring on good weather. Exactly. We don’t want rain for the drags. No, no, we don’t. And there’s one thing I want to see during the two days of thunder, I want to see in a classic touring car, you.
06:46
against Dave, Councillor Dave Cullen. Oh, cool. And I want to see ratio demo. I’m going to win. And I want to see you take on Willowbank Raceway. Yeah, I’m down. I’m down. All right. I’ll put the challenge out there. So let’s see if Councillor Cullen takes up the option. I, you know, he’s a cheater though, right? Oh, is he? Yeah, he’s cheeky. He’s really, really cheeky. He like swaps out drivers and carts.
07:15
Etc, etc. So we’re going to have to do some scrutineering prior to the race, but line that up. I think we just screw the door shut and then he can’t get out. I like that too. Yeah, ipsw is where you can find out all those details. Always great to chat to you, Nick, and you have a wonderful weekend and I hope it’s a
07:40
Yeah, thanks for your time, We’ll catch up soon. Thanks so much. There we go, Deputy Mayor and Division Two Councillor Nicole Jonic we’ll take a break. Come back with more in a moment.
