A health and mindset coach is encouraging people to ditch the “I’ll start Monday” mentality, warning the habit can derail motivation and prevent long-term progress.

Wellbeing coach Loz told listeners during a weekly segment that waiting for the start of the week to begin new habits often leads to procrastination rather than productivity.

“It sounds organised and disciplined, but most of the time it’s just procrastination wearing activewear,” she said.

Momentum More Important Than Motivation

According to Loz, the key to building healthy habits is focusing on small actions rather than waiting for motivation to appear.

She explained that momentum — created through simple steps such as going for a short walk, stretching or drinking a glass of water — often leads to motivation naturally following.

“People think they need motivation first, but it’s actually action that starts the process,” she said.

Perfection Not Required

Loz also warned against waiting for the “perfect week” to begin a new routine, noting that everyday life rarely runs smoothly enough for such a plan.

Real progress, she said, comes from continuing even when days become messy or busy.

“If you can only focus on your health during perfect weeks, you’ll be waiting forever,” she said.

Small Habits Build Lasting Change

The coach emphasised that lasting change is usually the result of small habits repeated consistently over time.

Simple actions such as drinking more water, eating one healthier meal or spending time outdoors can compound into meaningful improvements in wellbeing.

“Big change is just small habits done repeatedly,” Loz said.

Her advice to those looking to start a new routine was simple: begin immediately rather than waiting for the next Monday.

“The best time to start is now.”
