STARRING FRANCES MULCAHY
Presented by Frances Mulcahy and Ipswich Civic Centre
Frances with an ‘E’ – 2 puberties 45 years apart what could go wrong?
Written, and performed by Frances Mulcahy, Frances with an ‘E’ is her story of gender identity.
Frances grew up in an era when gay people were only rarely visible and gender diversity was pathologized and criminalized.
It was not until her 60th year that her true nature was finally able to have a voice.
The journey from the privileged position of a white apparently cis-hetero man to that of a white transgender lesbian woman has been quite the roller coaster.
Frances with an ‘E’ is a complex multifaceted story made accessible by its clarity and focus.
The content is uncensored and challenging.
Frances has been involved in teaching and story telling her whole life. Early in transition she contributed to My Trans Story at Brisbane Powerhouse’s Melt in 2019. Frances recently appeared at the Brisbane Comedy Festival 2022 There she was one on the five contributors to “Queer Stories”. a sellout show. She was also a support act to “Mel Buttle” at the Ipswich Civic Centre.
As Fran says herself; she is almost certainly, the most entertaining mature aged transgender lesbian woman with a disability you will ever see.
“Frances is eminently likable on stage, wry, playful, self-aware and with a wealth of tales to tell. We need more stories like hers in our festivals and comedy venues!“- Maeve Marsden Director of Queer Stories
