The Off the Wall art exhibition at Ipswich Community Gallery has delivered an incredible celebration of local talent, marking a high point in Ipswich’s vibrant arts scene. Running through to this Sunday, the exhibition features 45 local artists, each showcasing unique pieces that make perfect holiday gifts.

The event kicked off with a lively opening on Saturday, officially launched by Ipswich MP Jennifer Howard. Joining the celebration were other notable guests, including Cr Jim Madden and Wendy Bourne MP. Guests enjoyed a gallery brimming with 145 paintings, complemented by artisanal crafts and jewellery on display.

“This year’s Off the Wall is the biggest we’ve had, and it’s been wonderful to see the community embrace local art,” said Glenn Smith of Ipswich Arts Connect. “The range of pieces, from affordable $20 gifts to stunning $2,500 showpieces, ensures there’s something for everyone.”

Local artist Belinda Whitehouse, also shared exciting news. Her work from a prior Ipswich exhibition focusing on the history of the Ipswich Woollen Mills is now part of a showcase in Rhode Island, USA. “It’s surreal,” said Whitehouse. “One of my pieces, made from an authentic Ipswich Woollen Mills blanket I found serendipitously, is now representing our community overseas.”

Alongside Off the Wall, Ipswich’s arts calendar is bustling. Swich Up Productions’ live radio play adaptation of It’s a Wonderful Life continues at Fire Station 101, while Tivoli Drive-In’s Christmas Under the Stars added to the festive cheer last weekend.

For those yet to visit Off the Wall, the gallery is open daily from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. until Sunday. Celebrate Ipswich’s thriving arts community and find the perfect one-of-a-kind gift.
